The next system I plan to put together will be based on spare parts from previous
computers.
- Athlon XP 2400+ (locked)
- 256 MB DDR PC2700 (at PC2100 speeds)
- Asus A7A266 Motherboard
- 40 GB ATA Hard Drive
- 52x CD-ROM
- Some Small Form Factor case with PSU
Once prices on parts are where I want them, and I'm satisfied that I've finished my
research on the Athlon 64 platform, I will build Exotherm's successor.
- Athlon 64 3000+ Venice overclocked to 2.7 GHz
- DFI nForce4 Ultra-D Motherboard
- 2x 512 MB PQI Turbo PC3200 TCCD overclocked to PC4400
- ATI X800 XL PCIe
- Seagate 120 GB 7200.7 SATA Drive
- Lite-On CD-RW/DVD-ROM
- Fortron Blue Storm 500W PSU
- Lian Li PC-60 Plus
I think that Hull might be a bit unbalanced. The processor and RAM are overpowered
for what I use Hull for (mostly file serving and very light web serving). I've also
always wanted to experiment with a dual CPU system, so I think Hull's next iteration
will go something like this:
- Dual P3's (speed dependent on what I can get cheap)
- Dual Slot 1 or Socket 370 Motherboard (again dependent on eBay)
- 448 MB SDR PC133
- 0.75 TB Storage (add another 250 GB drive)
- 4x CD-R
- 350W Fortron PSU
- Same giant case
And now that Hull's been transfigured, what do I do with the parts I pulled out?
- Athlon XP 2500+
- DFI KT600 Motherboard
- 512 MB DDR PC3200
- 2x 40 GB ATA Hard Drives (if I still have them)
- 52x CD-ROM (whatever I can find)
- 350W Fortron PSU
- Antec SLK3000 Case
